10th Ward Alderman Peter Chico

Alderman Peter Chico was sworn in as the first Latino Alderman of the 10th Ward on May 15, 2023. He was born and raised in South Chicago and attended St. Columba Grammar School. In 2001, he graduated from De La Salle High School and went on to attend Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 2005. In June 2016, he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Service from DePaul University. He is the grandson of John Chico, a union leader who was ultimately elected President of Local 65 at U.S. Steel South Works in the 1970s.

Alderman Peter Chico started his professional career working at United Way raising funds to improve communities in need. He then worked in child welfare services. He began to work at Maryville Academy in their children’s shelter, helping to improve the lives of adolescents in DCFS care. Next, he was employed with Volunteers of America as a case worker with children in foster care. Peter began his employment with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department. He later became a Chicago Police Officer and was assigned to the 004th District as a District Intelligence Officer.

The 10th Ward is the largest ward in the City of Chicago, and encompasses the following neighborhoods: Riverdale, Golden Gate, Altgeld Gardens, Hegewisch, East Side, South Chicago, Bush, South Deering and Vets Park. The 10th Ward is policed by the 004th & 005th Districts.
